Club Athletes Turn Up for Power Play Round

Maccabi had a wonderful representation of athletes at last weekend’s AVSL Round 10 competition at Duncan MacKinnon. 19 club athletes amassed significant points for the club – including two new under 16 recruits Alex Gurvich and Alex Katsabis who both competed in the 1500m, 400m and the 4 x100 relay.
50 year old Zac Ashkanasy (club life member) was outstanding clocking 4min 21.8 sec for the 1500m – and could have run quicker as he eased himself into the race. Zac has been carrying injuries – with this his first run for the season! This time would rank Zac one of the fastest in his age group in Victoria.
The club was very well represented in the 1500m races with Zac, the two Alex’s, Emma De Jong (the state u.20 5K bronze medallist), Jarrod Zuchowski (4min 08.1 pb) , April Grodski, Ariel Golvan (4min 33.1 pb)  and David Blecher all running well.

The 100m races also saw Maccabi excel with Danielle Axarlis, Keira Donner, Skye Edelstein, Mica Ickowicz and Maayan Brand running the women’s races and Ollie Kranz, Ori Drabkin and Myer Vorchheimer the men’s races.

And it was terrific to see state representatives Shanie Landen and Ben Blecher sprint around the 400m track.
How wonderful was it that coaches David Blecher and Jarrod Zuchowski led the team by example competing in multiple events (400m, 1500m, long jump and relay) for the club on this very busy, very hot athletics afternoon.

The club entered 3 4×100 relay teams – picking up maximum points in the Division 4 competition.
