Club Newsletter 20/12/2021

Hi Maccabi Athletic club members and friends,
The Maccabi Athletic Club 60th AGM and Presentation night was held last Wednesday 15th December at Caulfield Park pavilion.

Over 50 club members, family and special guests attended – to celebrate the athletic achievements of many members, the selfless efforts of the coaches and committee, the excitement of the forthcoming Maccabiah Games in Israel – and the election of the 2021-2022 club committee.

Awards were presented both for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons.

It was wonderful to have Jemima Montag present to receive her Award and to speak to the audience.
Others to deliver short speeches were Amanda Montag (manager of Junior track and field at the 2017 Maccabiah) and Sam Gamsu (Head of Games Operations and Sport for the Australian Delegation to the Maccabiah Games) who discussed with great enthusiasm the expectations and experiences awaiting participants at Maccabiah Games.

Len Bogatin delivered a detailed President’s report and thanked all club members and Life members, the coaches, committee and sponsors of the club.
Special mention was made of the new club major sponsor, G-Lux Stone (Boris Vainberg – ex club athlete) and other significant sponsors Brian Goldberg of Trademark Ventures International and Adam Bogatin of Purple Foods – as well as the invaluable assistance from Maccabi Victoria through their Development Funding.

We welcome the returning committee of :
President: Len Bogatin
Vice-President: Nir Drabkin
Secretary: Christina Sun-Edelstein
Treasurer: Adam Bogatin
Committee: Sandy Lewis, Marc Blecher, Michael Benson

Maccabi Athletic Club lies in 3rd position out of the 11 teams on the AVSL Division 5 ladder as we head into the summer break.
Last weekend at Knox it was great to see Asher Grodski win his heat of the 1500m – and the strong performance of our 100m sprinters Adam Benson, Myer, David and Ben Blecher, and long jumper Ethen Weiss, into a very strong headwind.

Intra-club competition standing following round 6 are as follows
At the High Velocity meet held on 14th December David Blecher ran a quick pb of 11.39sec for his 100m, and Jayden Donner also set an impressive pb for his 200m (23.52sec) as did Jordan Levy (24.27sec).
At the Miler’s club (held 16th December) Emma de Jong just keeps improving wiping over 1.5sec from her 800m pb clocking 2min19.60sec and it was great to welcome Shanie Landen to her first competition of the season where she ran an impressive 4min 31.74 sec for her 1500m.
Also impressive was Jared Traub in the 1500m (4.46.54).

Competition now heads into a summer break – with the next scheduled event to be held at Lakeside for the 8th January 2022 – where the High-Velocity competition will feature the 100m and 400m and the Throwers club will conduct the shot put.

Please contact our AVSL manager Christina on ph 0432 368668 for any queries or further information.
